After-school activity

Children love to play. Their imagination is a great treasure that helps them to gain their knowledge about the world. And I noticed the best way to teach students is to involve them into a game, a party, an unusual activity where they forget about their fears and unconfidence. If you want to learn something new about the culture of foreign country or people, it is good to read a book about it or watch a film. But if you want to feel the culture, the traditions and remember them, you have to take part in it, try it... 

  Here is the example of the scenario  you can use in your work in a Language summer camp or on any other occasion. 

  Must admit children were very excited to take part in it.

« Ми - Індіанці»

Мета:

-         ознайомити дітей із життям та культурою корінних жителів різних народів, зокрема індіанців Америки;

-         розвивати пам'ять, увагу, уяву, пізнавальний інтерес, фізичні якості учнів;

-         розширювати кругозір;

-         виховувати повагу до культури інших народів;

Хід свята

Ведучий 1:

Доброго дня!

Сьогодні в нас відбудеться надзвичайно цікаве свято! Ми помандруємо у світ природи, таємничий, незбагненний, де спілкування людини із натурою стає на першому місці.

Ведучий 2:

Забудьмо про телефони, Інтернет, телебачення, і давайте поспілкуємось із метеликом, який сів на квітку, із струмочком, який дзюрчить веселу пісеньку, із сонечком, яке обнімає нас теплими промінчиками. Поговоримо з ними так, як мало відомі нам племена індіанців.

Ведучий 1:

А хто такі індіанці?

Де вони живуть?

Ведучий 2:

Індіанці – це загальна назва корінного населення Америки. Життя і культура цих племен і сьогодні захоплюють багатьох, їхній одяг, житло, переконання, вірування, закони притягують увагу. А їхня хоробрість захоплює.

І сьогодні з допомогою учасників двох загонів «Козачат» та «Розбишак» краще познайомимось із життям та вміннями індіанців.

(Свято починається під бій барабанів (ложками об відра і тазики) усі проголошують бойовий клич індіанців:)

Ми – індіанці, кращі за всіх!

Нас чекає успіх всіх!

Ми – індіанці, кращі за всіх!

Любим гумор, любим сміх!

В нашому сонячному вігвамі

Стали друзями ми з вами!

Знають всі і дорослі й діти –

Краще «Мрії» – нема на світі!

Бачу бойовий дух запанував у кожному серці індіанця! Можна починати змагання! Але давайте спочатку познайомимося ближче!

Конкурс 1. Складається із…

1.     Захист назви свого племені, його історія, представлення вождя.

2.     Ритуальний танець племені.

3.     Краща маска індіанця.

Конкур 2.

«Окомір». По дві особи від племені визначають відстань до заданого предмета, потім за допомогою кроків вимірюють цю відстань.

Конкурс 3.

«Найвлучніший мисливець». У підвішений рятувальний круг, чи відро влучити м’ячиком (шишкою), беруть участь 5 осіб від загону, кидок – один, хто більше влучить.

Конкурс 4.

«Пошуки скарбу». Кожне плем’я отримує карту і дотримуючись інструкцій, шукає скарб – пакет соку, яблука, цукерки.

Конкурс 5.

«Міс Індіана». Вибирається претенденток племені по конкурсах:

-         кращий індіанський танець,

-         швидко і красиво розмалювати спину воїна,

-         влучно стріляти з лука (або дартс)

The Importance of Fairy Tales

1. Fairy Tales Show Kids How to Handle Problems

We learn from the characters in stories, even as adults. They help us because we connect to our own lives, dreams, anxieties, and consider what we would do in their shoes. Fairy tales help children learn how to navigate life. (Bettelheim, B. Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales.)

2. Fairy Tales Build Emotional Resiliency 

Fairy tales show real life issues in a fantastical scenario where most often the hero triumphs. (Except inGrimm originals.) Children need to discover in a safe environment that bad things happen to everyone. Because guess what? No one in life is immune from challenges — so we need to build capacity in our children. Do we build emotional muscles so our children can hang on during tough times or do we shelter our kids, protecting them, leaving them so weak they can’t handle anything requiring strength?

3. Fairy Tales Give Us a Common Language (Cultural Literacy & Canon)

Neil Gaiman writes, “We encounter fairytales as kids, in retellings or panto. We breathe them. We know how they go.”

4. Fairy Tales Cross Cultural Boundaries

Many cultures share common fairy tales like Cinderella, with their own cultural flavor. We read the versions and know we all share something important, the need to make sense of life with story, and the hope for good to triumph over evil.

5. Fairy Tales Teach Story

Fairy tales are understanding the basics of story — setting, characters, and plot (rising action, climax, and resolution) as well as the difference between fiction and non-fiction. Once a child understands story, it supports his ability to make predictions and comprehend other stories he’s reading.

6. Fairy Tales Develop a Child’s Imagination

7. Fairy Tales Give Parents Opportunities to Teach Critical Thinking Skills

I absolutely hate Disney’s The Little Mermaid. A girl abandoning her life for a boy is rubbish and no kind of role model for my daughters. Even the original version shows a weak woman who dies for the man — I don’t like it. (But at least she suffers the consequences!)

But.

It doesn’t mean I won’t let my kids read the mermaid story. Sheltering doesn’t give my kids critical thinking skills. Exposure and guided conversation does! (Maybe with a few groans from the peanut gallery.)

8. Fairy Tales Teach Lessons

Use fairy tales to teach morals and lessons. What can you learn from Goldilocks? How about Cinderella or Jack and the Beanstalk?

So, are fairy tales too scary for kids?

Sometimes.

You need to consider a child’s age and developmental stage. We don’t read a two-year old the original Rapunzel where the prince is blinded and bloodied because the child won’t understand it anyway. Use your judgement as a parent. Let your children use their judgement, too — they’ll be able to say if they think the story is too scary or not.

You need to consider time of day to read the fairy tales. Perhaps some fairy tales aren’t meant to be bedtime stories. So, read them at lunch!

Just don’t ban fairy tales from your child’s life forever just because some are scary or politically incorrect. You can easily find modified  versions if that works better for your child and your family.

Сценарій позакласного заходу з англійської мови  

“ Happy English”( для учнів 5-6 класів)

Мета:удосконалення навичок говоріння  по темі “ let’s study English ”, розвивати  спостережливість та кмітливість , увагу, швидкість. Створити в учнів позитивний емоційний настрій, формувати інтерес до вивчення мови.

Незнайко. (виходить на сцену) Hello! Це поки що все, що я запам’ятав англійською. Діти, я вам співчуваю… Ось у мене зараз буде урок англійської, а навчає мене не абихто, а сама пані English- Англійська мова. Хоч я вважаю, що і так знаю англійську достатньо добре.

Мова. То хто це тут знає англійську «достатньо добре»?

Незнайко. Ну, я! А що? How do you do? Where do you live? Kyiv is a capital of Ukraine. Bland a med. Head & Shoulders... Та я стільки слів знаю!

Мова. Ну, тоді розпочнімо наш урок прямо зараз. What is your name?

Незнайко. Це я знаю! Хто таке не знає?! My name is Neznayko.

Мова.How do you do?

Незнайко. ??? А можна повільніше? Бо це ж ви таке питаєте - як в університеті…Що це ви таке спитали?

Мова. Як справи?

Незнайко. Ось! Бачите, діти! Я ж казав що англійська – це якась неправильна мова! How-do-you-do.Це ж скільки слів… Аж чотири… А спитали всього-на-всього «Як справи?» Це ж слів удвічі більше. Що ж виходить – може й голова у мене стане удвічі більша, коли я вивчу всю цю англійську? Вибачайте, але я вважаю, що мій словниковий «напас» достатньо глибокий і мене вже можна зарахувати до досить просвічених людей. А англійська… Хіба це так важливо?

Мова. По-перше, словниковий запас , а не «напас». І ти хочеш стати освіченим, а не «просвіченим»,  а по-друге, англійська – це важливо і про це знають всі діти. Ось, послухай, що кажуть мої учні про мене!

Мова. Я дуже хочу тебе розвеселити! Тому запрошую всіх вас у чарівну країну пізнання англійської мови і ти побачиш, що це може бути весело і цікаво.  Я знаю, що всі діти люблять казки. А ти знаєш хто така Little Red Riding Hood?

Незнайко.Ну, звісно, це ж Червона Шапочка!

Мова. Тоді ти легко справишся з моїми завданнями до цієї казки. А мої друзі тобі допоможуть!
